Quick reference guide for PrintTHAT! Installation
PrintTHAT! allows you to create print-ready PDF files from any Macintosh or Windows application and immediately
upload them to Ambit Press for printing. To begin using PrintTHAT!, you must first download the print driver and
install it on your computer. If you have any questions, please contact your system administrator or Ambit Press.

Please note that Microsoft PowerPoint's transparency feature used to alter colors, images and graphics causes our PDF builder and RIP difficulty. This is an industry known problem and development is under way to resolve the issue.
We suggest avoiding the transparency feature whenever possible and that you select a different color from the color palette as opposed to using the transparency feature to adjust colors.
If you have used the transparency feature, please submit the native PowerPoint file through our FTP file upload page.
Installing PrintTHAT!
- Download the appropriate Ambit Press PrintTHAT! Driver for your operating system.
- Select Save
- Select a location on your hard drive to save the downloaded file.
Now that you have downloaded the driver, it needs to be installed on your computer.
- Double click on the file that was downloaded in Step 3 of the previous instructions
- Select Setup (this will begin an InstalShield Wizard)
- Select Next
- Select Yes
- Select Next (leave the existing names in the boxes)
- Select Next (this will initiate the installation)
- Select Finish, closing out of the installation program and beginning using PrintTHAT!.
Windows Page Resizing
- From your Desktop, select Start Menu/ Settings/Printers and Faxes
- Right MouseClick on the Ambit Press printer
- Select Properties…
- For Windows 2000 and XP:
Choose Printing Preference Button on the bottom right
Select Advanced
Change Paper Size from A4 to Letter
Select Okay to close all windows and return to your Desktop
Creating PrintTHAT! PDF files using PrintTHAT!
PDF creation from PrintTHAT! takes place during the printing process. Once you have prepared and proofed your
document and are ready to submit it to Ambit Press for printing you are ready to use PrintTHAT!.
- Open your file or document within its native application.
- Select File/Print…
Your Print menu will appear
- Select the "Ambit Press" driver from your print list
- Select OK
- Select SAVE
- PrintTHAT! converts your application file to a PDF format.
On the screen you will be required to confirm the file name and a directory to save the PDF. By default,
PrintTHAT! will save the file in the directory that the print driver is installed. You will notice that the
file name is prefixed by the originating application but can be changed.
- Select Preflight
The Preflight features built into PrintTHAT! will scan your file for any errors that would cause
your document not to be printed, or to print incorrectly. The results of this feature can be viewed
by selecting "View the Preflight Report" once preflighting is completed. The PrintTHAT preflight
process is set to the highest possible print standards, so warnings and errors are common and this
does not mean that your job will be affected.
Whether you choose to view Preflight Report or not, it is strongly recommended that you preview your PDF
file to be sure that what you see on screen is what you are expecting to be printed.
- Preview the PDF file
- You can upload the file.
Note: You must be connected to the internet to upload a file.
Once the file is uploaded, you are automatically connected to the PrintTHAT! web server and login page.
Again you have three options;
- Register if you are new user.
Self Registration is a unique feature that allows 1st time users to set up a profile and submit a job with no wait time.
Pay close attention to the email address and password. This information identifies you in the system and the email
address will be used to send you status confirmations.
Fields highlighted in RED must be filled in.
- Retrieve your Password.
If you forget your password you can retrieve it automatically.
Just enter your email address and PrintTHAT! will send you an email message with your password.
You will also notice a link back to the login page.
- Login if you are a current user.
Once you have entered your email address and password, you are presented with the Job Specification screen.
Here you enter all of your job specifications. All required field are in RED
- Place information that is not covered by the drop down boxes
- Additional comments concerning printing or delivery can also be inserted here
- When you are satisfied with your selections, press the PrintTHAT! button to submit your files to Ambit Press
- You will receive an email from Ambit Press letting you know that your job has been successfully submitted
