Ambit Press is located at Five Cambridge Center which is owned and managed by Boston Properties. Boston Properties
supervises the energy consumption and waste management of our site. We are quite pleased with the environmental practices that Boston
Properties (BP) has in place. Since January 2006 the conservation efforts of BP has saved 1,478 adult trees, 608,702 gallons of water and
33,914 gallons of heating oil.
BP contracts an outside resource to mange the buildings recycling efforts. We are given recycling baskets for every desk and large recycling
bins are placed in our shop area for the collection of scraps from the production process. All of our paper waste is deposited in these bins,
including: cardboard, newsprint, glossy paper, folders, envelopes (including those with windows), magazines, computer paper and all other paper
waste. BP empties our bins nightly and our paper waste is transported to a large plant located in Weymouth, MA. There it is divided into four
different grades of paper and baled according to grade. A secondary pulping facility is contracted to take the bales to be recycled into
various paper products.
Boston Properties also utilizes an outside resource for the disposal of all the light bulbs used in our facility. Discarded mercury-bearing
light bulbs, elemental mercury and mercury-containing devices are collected in large drums, when full the drums are collected and taken to
an offsite recycling plant. Using a Luma, each bulb is dismantled and recycle components are separated. Excess glass is ground into fine
particles for use in asphalt and metal components are collected and sent on for further metals reclaim. The mercury phosphate powder is
brought to a mercury retort where mercury is recovered from the powder leaving 99.99% elemental mercury to be resold into the marketplace.
BP manages the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) in our building. Conservation efforts are made in regulating our energy by
lowering temperature set points in the heating season and raising temperature points in the cooling season during non-business hours. This
drastically reduces the amount of energy consumed in our production and office spaces.
Ambit Press is also impressed by the 'green' programs that Cambridge Center (our division of Boston Properties) sponsors for their tenants.
Every May they hold an Alternative Transportation Day Fair, increasing the awareness of various means of transportation, commuting options
and providing information about other environmentally beneficial programs. A Bike Appreciation Breakfast was also hosted this past May to
thank the tenants that use an alternative form of transportation. For Ambit Press, it is reassuring to know that we are tenants of a
corporation that takes responsibility for their role in environmental conservation.
