Ink composition is a concern for all printers, we use a vegetable-oil based ink in our sheetfed presses. While
the trend in the printing world is in the promotion of soy based inks, vegetable based inks are an equally environmentally friendly
solution. Projects produced on our offset presses are permitted to use the phrase, "Printed with vegetable-oil inks." on
the printed material.
The National Soy Information Center (which licensed the use of the Soy Seal) defined sheetfed "soy ink" as an ink containing at
least 20% soy oil. The average vegetable oil content in the ink that we use is more than 20%. These inks are also formulated with
resins from natural sources, mostly pine trees. The average amount of pine-derived resin in these inks is also more than 20%. Between
the vegetable oil and the pine resins, these inks are derived from nearly 50% of plant-based sources.
All of our sheetfed presses use ink that can be cleaned with a water detergent and solvent mixture. This mixture relies more
on mechanical cleaning versus chemical cleaning which reduces the amount of harsh solvents introduced to the environment. We
minimize the number of wash-ups and the amount of waste ink produced by charging the press with only the amount of ink needed
for a particular job. We employ a nationally recognized company to recycle, reclaim, destroy or dispose (in that order) of our waste ink.
